About
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Eva Gardner is a second-generation artist and musician. Her father, Londoner Kim Gardner, was an integral part of the British Invasion of the 1960s and 70s. He was not only part of many influential British bands as a bassist (the Creation, the Birds, Ashton, Gardner & Dyke), he was a visual artist as well. Growing up with music and art in the household, it felt natural for “Little Eva” to follow suit. At a young age, Eva’s parents bought her an easel and some paints - she soon started experimenting with different materials, including fabric scraps left over by her seamstress babysitter. Incorporating whatever she could find—glue, paint, fabric, egg cartons, cardboard--Eva spent much of her time as a child creating art pieces as gifts for family, friends and teachers.
As a teenager, Eva began to seriously pursue her music career as a bassist. She graduated from the LA County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) and went on to graduate with a degree in Ethnomusicology from UCLA. From there her music career took her on the road as a bassist for artists such as P!nk, Cher, Gwen Stefani, Veruca Salt, Moby & The Mars Volta. Eva’s globetrotting as a musician eventually brought her around full circle--to become fully immersed in the visual arts once again. Eva is currently living in Los Angeles and back at work in her art studio. She is expanding upon art and photography concepts she has immersed herself in while on the road. Eva has also continued to incorporate those mixed media elements in her art pieces she had so much fun with as a child—beads, glue, paper—whatever may be at hand or come to mind. As we are always continuing to expand and grow, what once was 2 separate experiences for Eva are now fuel for each other—art and music are a truly enriching and limitless experience in her creative world. photo by Sam Gracey
